Utilisée en construction métallique, chaudronnerie, sous-traitance mécanique et tout atelier nécessitant la découpe de matière première métallique avant usinage ou assemblage. Le prix va de 1 500-6 000 € pour une scie à ruban d'occasion de taille moyenne à plus de 40 000 € neuf pour une scie automatique CNC haute cadence avec chargeur. Durée de vie de 15 à 25 ans, la lame étant un consommable régulier à remplacer selon la fréquence d'utilisation et le type de matériau coupé. Nécessite une alimentation électrique adaptée, un système de refroidissement/lubrification de la lame, et un espace suffisant pour la manutention des barres et profilés avant et après coupe.
